Specimen Required:

Patient Preparation: None required.

 

Collect: Preferred: Green-top (sodium heparin) tube - 0.5 ml plasma.

            Acceptable: Green-top (lithium heparin) tube OR Lavender-top (EDTA) tube OR PPT™ OR Separator tube (SST) OR Red-top -  0.5 ml serum or plasma.

 

Specimen Preparation: Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum from cells by centrifuging for 10 min. Transfer specimen to plastic transport tube before freezing. Freeze immediately. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.

Storage/Transport Temperature: Frozen.

Stability: Room Temperature/Refrigerated: Unstable; Frozen: 14 days..

Reject Creteria: Gross hemolysis; room temperature or thawed specimen; specimens collected in yellow-top (ACD) tubes
