Specimen Required: Collect: Bacterial Swab OR eSwab OR Random Urine in a sterile container.
            (Sputum, Blood, Bone marrow, Body fluids, Skin and interspaces, Hair, Nail, Ear, Eye, Nose, Throat)
Specimen Preparation: Specify the source of the specimen.
Sputum: Sputum should be fresh. Collect it in the early morning. Have a patient remove dentures and rinse mouth.Sputum should be the result of a deep cough (not saliva). Transport in a sterile container, Refrigerated : 5-10 ml 
Respiratory Specimens other than sputum: These speciments include tracheal aspirates, lung biopsy material and bronchoscopy specimens. Collected aseptically by physicians and immediately sent to the laboratory for examination and processing. Transport in a sterile container, Refrigerated
Blood: Collect blood aseptically to avoid microbial contamination. Clean the collection site with a disinfectant at  the time of collection. Collect blood directly into the blood culture broth.
Bone marrow: Aspirate approximately 3 to 5 ml of bone marrow and place it in a sterile container, Refrigerated.
Body Fluids:   Transport in a sterile container.
Skin and interpspaces:  Wipe lesions and interspaces between the toes with alcohol sponge or sterile water. Scrape the lesion(s) and both sides of interspaces with a sterile scalpel. Place scrapings between two clean glass sliders or in a clean envelope labeled with the patients date and source.
Ear, Eye, Nose, Throat: Using sterile swab collect material from appropriate site. Insert swab into transport medium. 
Criteria for rejection : Specimen submitted in containers with preservatives. Urine sample.
Urine: The urine specimen  most suitable for making a diagnosis of mycoses of the urinary tract is a catherized specimen. Collect a clean-catch midstream specimen when aspiration or cystoscopy cannot be do done. Collect early-morning speciments aseptically in sterile container. 24hr collections are unacceptable.
Hair:  No cleaning of scalp is needed. Select infected areas and with forceps epilate at least 10 hairs. Place hairs between two clean glass sliders or in a sterile container .
Nail: Clean nail with 70% alcohol. Collect the whole nail or nail clippings. Place all materials in a sterile container.

Stability: Room Temperature 48 hours
