Cytology, Maturation Index, Pap

Methodology: Light Microscopy
Performed: Mon-Fri
Reported: 5-7 days
Specimen Required: Collect: Thin Prep or Smear.
Specimen Preparation: Using the Thin Prep Kit , label with patient's name. Collect specimen from the lateral vaginal wall only and fix immediately with cytology fixative. Slide (smear) containing scraping from the lateral vaginal wall smeared on labeled glass slide and immediately wet-fixed in 95% ethyl alcohol.
Specimen slide must be labeled with patient's name at the site of collection. 
Note: Cervical smear are not suitable for cell count. DO NOT allow air drying when making the smear. Be sure to include all pertinent clinical data ( Last menstrual period, Radiation Therapy, Clinical Cancer, Hormone Therapy, Previous abnormal cytology, Intrauterine device IUD use) of the specimen request form.
Storage/Transport Temperature: Room Temperature
Stability: Room Temperature Thin Prep - 7 days, Smear - 7 days
Reference Interval: Result are reported in a ration of parabasal cells/intermediate cells/superficial cells.
