Specimen Required: Collect: Lavender (EDTA) - 0.5 ml whole blood

Patient Preparation: A fasting specimen is preferred.

Dietary supplements containing biotin may interfere in assays and may skew analyte results to be either falsely high or falsely low. For patients receiving the recommended daily doses of biotin, draw samples at least 8 hours following the last biotin supplementation. For patients on mega-doses of biotin supplements, draw samples at least 72 hours following the last biotin supplementation. 

Storage/Transport Temperature: Ship Original Tube on cold pack or Room Temperature, DO NOT FREEZE.  Protection from light exposure (e.g., foil wrap) is not required.

The test cannot be performed on a frozen specimen. A default test result will be used for calculation of the RBC folate value .

If Folate (light-protected or amber vials) :

Room temperature: 5 days Refrigerated: 5 days Frozen: 30 days
