Specimen Required:

Collect: Lavender-top (EDTA) tube - 0.5 ml whole blood

Patient Preparation : Blood samples should be collected before breakfast in the morning and prior to any medication.

Specimen Preparation: Draw blood. Do not separate. Protect specimen from light. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested. If amber tubes are unavailable, cover standard transport tube completely, top and bottom, with aluminum foil. 

Storage/Transport Temperature:  Frozen

Stability: Room Temperature: Unstable; Refrigerated : 2 days; Frozen: 7 days 

Causes for Rejection : Specimen not frozen ; plasma specimen; use of anticoagulants other than EDTA; specimen not protected from light
