Specimen Required: | Collect: Yellow top tube (ACD solution A) OR OneSwab®Â
Specimen Preparation:Â
Blood: Completely fill the tube whenever possible to eliminate dilution from the anticoagulant and ensure the proper blood-to-anticoagulant ratio. •Immediately after blood collection, invert the tube(s) gently 8-10 times to ensure mixing of anticoagulant with blood to prevent clotting.Â
ÂDo not shake tube(s).Â
ÂDo not centrifuge specimen.Â
OneSwab®: Firmly, yet gently, obtain sample with the OneSwab, rotating it 360o for 10-30 seconds to ensure adequate sampling. When sampling a crusted over lesion, moisten the swab in sterile saline prior to taking the sample. Remove the swab and place into the vial. Snap off the shaft to fit completely in the vial. Be sure the swab fits into the vial prior to capping. Tightly cap the vial.
